Cape Barren Goose Cereopsis novaehollandiae is a goose of the family Anatidae in the order Anseriformes. It is native to southern Australia and breeds on grassy islands off the south Australian coast. The species is a large, mainly ground-dwelling bird that is not closely allied to other living geese in the same subfamily. It is also known as the pig goose. Two subspecies are recognised, one in south-eastern Australia and one in south-western Australia. It can drink salt and brackish water, which helps it stay on offshore islands throughout the year.
