Chestnut-crowned Babbler, Pomatostomus ruficeps, is a bird of inland south-eastern Australia, breeding from western New South Wales and south-western Queensland through to eastern South Australia and north-western Victoria. It belongs to the Australasian babbler family and was described by Hartlaub in 1852. The species is tied to arid and semi-arid country, especially open mallee, mulga and belar woodland, with further use of acacia and cypress pine scrub, stony ground, sandhills, lignum, saltbush and samphire. It is known for its chestnut crown, white wing bars and long, down-curved black bill.
