Chowchilla, Orthonyx spaldingii, is a passerine in the Orthonychidae family found in north-eastern Queensland, Australia, where it is restricted to upland and lowland tropical rainforests. It breeds in ec and se Cape York Peninsula and ne Queensland. It is a ground-dwelling bird with a thrush-like shape, and the tail-feather shafts project beyond the vanes as spines. Males and females are mostly dark brown with a white eye-ring. Males have white underparts, while females show a bright rufous throat and upper breast, with white below.
