Cliff Flycatcher

Hirundinea ferruginea (Gmelin, JF, 1788)

Tyrannidae — Tyrant Flycatchers, Calyptura

Cliff Flycatcher Hirundinea ferruginea is a bird of widespread South American range, found across much of the continent and in many mainland countries. It belongs to the tyrant flycatcher family and is a passerine. Its presence is tied to vertical terrain near forest, including cliffs, gorges, canyons, rocky outcrops, quarries and road cuttings, and it also uses buildings and bridges in the south of its range. In eastern Brazil it occurs in Eremanthus forest and campo rupestre. It is the only species in Hirundinea, a genus named for swallows.
