Rhinocryptidae — Tapaculos

Dusky Tapaculo, Scytalopus fuscus, is a passerine in the Rhinocryptidae family that breeds in central Chile. It is confined to Chile, from the southern Atacama Region to Biobío Region, and lives in the bottoms of thickly vegetated valleys from sea level to 800 m. Formerly treated as part of Magellanic Tapaculo, it was separated after vocal differences were recognised and the two were found to overlap in part of their ranges. It is a grey bird overall, with darker upperparts, paler underparts, a brown wash on the lower back and rump, and sometimes pale tawny-brown flanks barred in black.
