Grey-headed Silverbill, Spermestes griseicapilla, is a bird of southern South Sudan, southern Ethiopia and central Tanzania in the Estrildidae family. It is a dry savanna species that stays close to water and ranges widely as conditions change. The bird is stocky, with a grey head marked by white dots, a greyish-brown body, partly black wings and tail, and a white rump. Young birds can be recognised by that white rump. It moves in small flocks and often joins African Silverbills. It feeds mainly on grass seeds, and insects have also been suggested.
