Japanese Sparrowhawk

Tachyspiza gularis (Temminck & Schlegel, 1845)

Japanese Sparrowhawk, Tachyspiza gularis, breeds across central and eastern parts of the Palearctic and moves to eastern Oregon outside the breeding season. It is a bird of prey in the Accipitridae family, and was first described by Temminck and Schlegel in 1845. Its breeding area includes Russia, Korea, Japan and China. The species is usually recognised by its appearance. It has also been known under several other names, including Japanese lesser sparrowhawk, Asiatic sparrowhawk and Eastern sparrowhawk. Three subspecies are recognised, each differing in range and plumage.
