Rhinocryptidae — Tapaculos

Narino Tapaculo, Scytalopus vicinior, is a bird of the Rhinocryptidae family that breeds in western Colombia and central Ecuador. It was first described by Zimmer, JT, 1939. In the Andes it occupies the west slope from Risaralda and Chocó south to southwestern Cotopaxi Province, mainly in the understorey of moist montane forest and sometimes along forest edges. It is a tapaculo that can be mistaken for other Andean species, but the male has a dark grey head and back, a cinnamon rump with dusky bars, and paler grey underparts with yellowish brown flanks and vent area barred in blackish.
