Rhinocryptidae — Tapaculos

Neblina Tapaculo, Scytalopus altirostris, is a bird of the tapaculo family that breeds in northern Peru, in Amazonas and San Martín. It lives on the eastern side of the northern Andes, where it is found in elfin forest and along the boundary with nearby páramo grassland. The species was first described by Zimmer in 1939. It was once treated as a form of Magellanic Tapaculo, but was later recognised as a separate species after differences in vocalisations were noted.
