Rhinocryptidae — Tapaculos
Planalto Tapaculo, Scytalopus pachecoi, is a passerine in the Rhinocryptidae family that breeds in southern Brazil and north-eastern Argentina. It was described by Maurício in 2005. The species was separated from the mouse-coloured tapaculo after differences in plumage and vocalisations were recognised. Its name commemorates Fernando Pacheco, a Brazilian ornithologist. It is recorded from forest and forest edge, especially close to streams and in dense undergrowth such as bamboo. In Brazil it occurs in Rio Grande do Sul and south-eastern Santa Catarina, and in Argentina in Misiones Province.
