Melanocharis citreola Milá, Ashari & Thébaud, 2021
Satin Berrypecker, Melanocharis citreola, is a berrypecker of the family Melanocharitidae found in western New Guinea. It breeds in Australasia, and is recorded from the Bird’s Neck region in the Fakfak and Kumawa Mountains. Its most notable feature is the male’s satin-white underparts, which set it apart from other berrypeckers. The species was described in 2021 by Milá, Ashari and Thébaud. It lives in mid-montane cloud forest, especially in more open stretches with fewer trees and more tree ferns, and is known from elevations of 900 to 1,500 m.
