Socotra Cormorant Phalacrocorax nigrogularis is a cormorant of the Persian Gulf, the Arabian Sea off Oman, the Gulf of Aden and Socotra, with breeding also recorded perhaps in the Red Sea off Eritrea. It is a seabird of the Palearctic and Africa, and its range is centred on the south-east Arabian region. The bird is almost wholly black, with breeding adults showing a purplish sheen on the forecrown, a slaty-green cast above, some white plumes around the eye and neck, and white marks on the rump. Its legs, feet and gular skin are blackish.
