Sublegatus modestus (Wied-Neuwied, M, 1831)

Tyrannidae — Tyrant Flycatchers, Calyptura

Southern Scrub Flycatcher, Sublegatus modestus, is a passerine of the tyrant flycatcher family that breeds in south, east and south-east South America. It lives in dry scrub and open deciduous woodland, and is also known from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay. The bird is often overlooked because it is unobtrusive. It has the same plumage in both sexes, with a grey-brown crown that may rise into a shaggy crest, a pale face marked by a dark eye line, and two wing bars. It is a partial migrant and feeds on arthropods.
