Southern Whiteface

Aphelocephala leucopsis (Gould, 1841)

Southern Whiteface, Aphelocephala leucopsis, lives in western, central and southern Australia. It is a stocky bird of arid open woodland and grassland, especially in Acacia country with mulga and saltbush or bluebush. It is most easily recognised by the white band across the forehead and the darker line above it, and by the absence of a breast band. The species is found across much of its range, though it is not present in Tasmania or on the mainland coast.
