Western Banded Snake Eagle, Circaetus cinerascens, is an African bird of prey found from Senegal and Gambia east to western Ethiopia, and south to Namibia and Zimbabwe. It lives in woodland, especially beside rivers, and also uses forest edges, while avoiding dense forest. It is a short-tailed eagle with a large head and a crested chest. Adults are grey-brown, with dark streaking on the head, neck and breast, and pale underparts marked with brown streaks.
