5-Day Private Birding North Chile and the Altiplano
Five private days from Arica’s coast and desert valleys to Lauca National Park and the high Altiplano, focused on northern Chile’s specialist birds.
About this tour
This five-day private route moves from the Pacific coast at Arica through desert valleys and into the high Andean plateau. Birding begins around the Lluta River mouth and nearby valleys, then climbs through Camarones, Chaca and Putre before reaching Lauca National Park and Las Vicuñas Reserve.
The changing elevation creates access to coastal, pre-puna and Altiplano communities. Searches include Peruvian Thick-knee and Chilean Woodstar in the lowlands, while high-elevation lagoons and grasslands support flamingos, coots, tinamous, ground doves and other Andean specialists. A nocturnal walk near Putre may be included for night birds.
Local boutique accommodation, specified meals, private transport with window seats, field equipment and a birding guide with wilderness first-aid training are included. Domestic and international flights, insurance and gratuities are excluded. High-altitude conditions require appropriate preparation.
