Spend a private day birding in Hong Kong with Dr Martin Williams, a local writer, photographer and guide whose work has long focused on the territory’s wildlife and conservation. The day is shaped around the habitat that best fits the season, current conditions and your own interests in birdwatching or bird photography.
A Mai Po wetland day, a Tai Po Kau forest walk or a Long Valley field route can each offer a different perspective on Hong Kong’s birdlife. Rather than promising a fixed bird list, this flexible format lets the outing concentrate on the area that is most rewarding at the time of travel.
Martin has lived in Hong Kong since 1987 and has contributed to nature tourism and birding in the region, including earlier work leading and co-leading bird tours. His private guiding now centers on birding and bird photography at Mai Po and other Hong Kong sites.
The published guide fee for a full day is from HK$2,800, with transport arranged separately. A Mai Po visit may also require a separate reserve permit. The precise route, access arrangements and current costs are confirmed through BirdWatch before the outing.

Before the outing, the guide confirms whether Long Valley, Tai Po Kau or Mai Po is the best choice for the day. The full day is paced around private birdwatching or bird-photography time in the selected farm, forest or wetland landscape. Transport arrangements and any Mai Po access requirements are confirmed while planning the day.
