16-Day Top Birding Route in Kenya
A 16-day route through Castle Forest, Samburu, Buffalo Springs, Lake Baringo, Kakamega, Lake Victoria, Naivasha, Kinangop and Aberdare.
About this tour
This Kenya circuit begins in Nairobi and quickly moves into Mount Kenya’s forest belt. Stops at the Thika wetlands and Sagana lead toward Castle Forest, where a full day is set aside for montane mixed flocks and localized species.
Samburu and Buffalo Springs then shift the emphasis to Somali–Maasai dry-country birds along the Ewaso Ng’iro corridor. Lake Baringo adds boat access, shoreline habitat and arid-country specialities before the route continues west to Kakamega. Two complete rainforest days are planned for greenbuls, wattle-eyes, akalats, forest weavers and other western species.
The closing section follows Lake Victoria and Dunga’s papyrus wetlands to Lake Naivasha, the Kinangop grasslands and Aberdare National Park. Its progression combines a Kisumu arrival, a Lake Victoria boat trip and the transfer to Naivasha before the final grassland and highland stages. Final accommodation and timing are confirmed for each departure, and all search priorities remain subject to field conditions.
