This private day brings together the western woods of Sobieszewo Island, a stretch of Baltic beach and the wetland viewpoints of Ptasi Raj. Ryan leads the eight-hour outing in English, adjusting the pace and attention to your interests. It is a longer way to experience the island’s birdlife than a single reserve circuit.
Begin among the western trees, where Cold War missile bunkers add a historical element to the woodland route. Continue toward the beach before entering Ptasi Raj, moving between places where forest birds can be heard and broader views suited to watching waterbirds. The hides and observation towers provide time to stop and scan instead of looking only while walking.
Black Woodpeckers and White-tailed Eagles are among the birds that may be encountered. Waterbird possibilities change with the calendar: Long-tailed Ducks, Tufted Ducks and Goldeneyes are examples from the area, while warmer months bring a different mix. Other wildlife, including moose, can also be part of the day, without any sighting being assured.
Break for lunch at a restaurant or bring a picnic, then explore another part of the reserve in the afternoon. A lunch reservation can be arranged, but the meal itself is not included. Binoculars, a field guide and insect repellent are supplied. The tour operates year-round, and the walking conditions and birdlife reflect the season.
