Spend ten days based near Gunjur and choose five full guided birdwatching outings from Footsteps Eco-Lodge’s local programme. Compared with the shorter package, the extra field time allows a wider selection of the operator’s coastal, wetland, woodland and rice-field experiences. The five birding days are selected with the guest; they are not a fixed day-by-day route and their order is set when the trip is arranged.
Possible choices listed by Footsteps include the boat-and-reserve combination at Lamin Lodge and Abuko, the Tanji coastal birding area, woodland and open-country stops around Marakissa and Darsalami, and the Mandinaba/Faraba rice fields. Banjul, Kotu and Fajara form another outing, while nearby wetlands offer a quieter day closer to the lodge. The exact five destinations depend on the guest’s interests and the operator’s current arrangements. The bird photographs illustrate species in the Footsteps collection and do not imply that any one species will be found on a particular excursion.
Footsteps quotes £770 per person for the birding package: five full days with a guide, entry fees for the selected birding sites, daily breakfast, a packed lunch and two-course dinner, and private airport transfers. Accommodation is not part of that price. Footsteps offers a separately priced self-catered villa, a roundhouse on a bed-and-breakfast basis, and budget chalets.
