About this tour

Surucua Lodge provides a quiet rainforest base on the Iguazu River, about 70 kilometres upstream from the falls. Four cabins sit within undisturbed forest, giving guests direct access to an extensive trail system instead of requiring a return to the main Iguazu visitor area after each field session. The published two-night format is represented here as a flexible three-day stay.

Birding centres on the lodge grounds and surrounding Atlantic Forest. White-bearded and Band-tailed Manakins are particularly notable because their Argentine ranges are restricted. The same habitat can support Ornate Hawk-Eagle, Grey-headed Kite, Saffron Toucanet and Spot-billed Toucanet, while Black-capped Screech-Owl and Barred Antshrike add further reasons to include early or late field time. These remain search priorities rather than guaranteed sightings.

Meals and lodge-based access are central to the experience, but the exact division of field time around arrival and departure depends on transfers and cabin availability. The middle day allows the longest uninterrupted trail session; shorter walks can be used on the first and final days as timing permits.
