Half-Day Birdwatching at Copal Tree Lodge
Explore the lodge grounds, rainforest and Rio Grande river edge on a guided morning birdwatching walk near Punta Gorda, with binoculars included.
About this tour
The half-day birdwatching tour at Copal Tree Lodge follows the variety of habitats immediately around its southern Belize property. With a local guide, guests move through the grounds and forest and spend time near the Rio Grande river edge. This gives the morning a wider range than the introductory walk while keeping the outing based at the lodge.
Forest birds, river birds and birds using the gardens can all be possible subjects. The lodge identifies raptors and kingfishers as possibilities, along with parrots, manakins, herons, hummingbirds, euphonias and trogons. These are possibilities rather than a fixed checklist, and the guide can adapt the pace to what is active on the day. The tour is listed as family friendly and includes binoculars.
The usual time is 7:00 to 11:30 a.m. It is available daily by request, subject to availability. Guests should bring water, closed-toe shoes, lightweight clothing, insect repellent, sunscreen and a hat. The walk begins at Copal Tree Lodge near Punta Gorda; any particular trail or river section is selected by the guide according to local conditions.
