Red Bank Village in Belize’s Stann Creek District is known for seasonal gatherings of Scarlet Macaws. Copal Tree Lodge offers a guided birding day there from its base near Punta Gorda. The macaws generally move to lower elevations to feed from December through March, making the outing seasonal; their presence on any individual day cannot be guaranteed.
The journey follows the Southern Highway for roughly 70 miles north of the lodge. The operator describes a drive of about an hour and a half and birding opportunities through changing habitats along the way. At Red Bank, the guide focuses on the reserve area and the macaws when conditions allow. The day is a chance to see a different birding landscape from the lodge’s own lowland forest and river edge.
The published departure is 5:45 a.m., with return around 3:00 p.m. The outing is offered daily by request in season, subject to availability, and needs at least two participants.
