About this tour
This small-group 20-day itinerary extends across Bhutan from Paro and Thimphu to subtropical forest near the Indian border and the eastern highlands. After Jigme Dorji, Dochu La and Punakha, it travels through Damphu to Gelephu. The route then moves into the forests around Tingtibi, Panbang and Nganglam within the Royal Manas landscape.
A northbound transect reaches Yongko La, where three full days explore the highlands toward Namling. The westward return passes Sengor, Chumey, Trongsa, Yotong La and Phobjikha before high-altitude birding at Pele La. Back in Paro, the program includes the Tiger's Nest Monastery hike, Chele La and lower forest on the mountain slopes. The complete route carries an estimated total of 325-375 species.
The pace is easy to moderate and difficulty moderate. Early starts are common, most fieldwork is roadside-based, and mountain passes reach approximately 3,700 meters. The Tiger's Nest walk takes about five to six hours round trip. September through May is the listed season, avoiding the summer monsoon.
