Abdim's Stork

Ciconia abdimii

Abdim's stork (Ciconia abdimii) is a medium-sized stork found in parts of eastern Africa. It is named after the Turkish governor of Sudan, Abdim Bey. This stork has a distinctive black and white plumage, with a black head, neck, and back, and white underparts. It has a long, pointed bill and long legs, which it uses to forage for a variety of prey including insects, small reptiles, and amphibians. Abdim's storks are often found in open grasslands, savannas, and wetlands, where they build large stick nests in trees. They are known for their impressive aerial displays during the breeding season, where they perform acrobatic flights and vocalize loudly.
