Abyssinian Owl, Asio abyssinicus, is a resident owl of eastern Africa, recorded from Ethiopia, central Kenya, western Uganda and the Albertine Rift montane forests. It is found in mountain valleys and gorges, and also in open grassland or moorland with oak or cedar woodland, up to 2,900 metres above sea level. It is a non-migratory bird. It is a medium-sized true owl with dark brown eyes, a black bill, grey eyebrows and prominent ear-tufts edged in white. It is nocturnal and uses other birds’ nests for breeding.
