Asio abyssinicus
The Abyssinian Owl (Asio abyssinicus) is a medium-sized owl species found in the woodlands and savannas of sub-Saharan Africa. It is characterized by its distinctive ear tufts and mottled brown and white plumage, providing excellent camouflage in its natural habitat. This nocturnal bird of prey primarily feeds on small mammals, birds, and insects. It hunts by perching and scanning the ground for prey before swooping down to capture its target. The Abyssinian Owl is a solitary and elusive species, often roosting in dense foliage during the day. Despite its widespread distribution, little is known about its population trends and conservation status.
