Cecropis abyssinica
The Abyssinian Swallow (Cecropis abyssinica) is a medium-sized bird found in the woodlands, savannas, and grasslands of sub-Saharan Africa. It is known for its distinctive deep red throat and upper breast, contrasting with a white belly and dark blue-black upperparts. This species is highly sociable, often forming large flocks during the non-breeding season. Abyssinian Swallows are agile fliers, catching insects on the wing with their broad, pointed wings and deeply forked tails. They build cup-shaped mud nests under overhangs, cliffs, or buildings. The species is not currently considered at risk and is widely distributed throughout its range.
