Abyssinian Wheatear

Oenanthe lugubris

The Abyssinian Wheatear (Oenanthe lugubris) is a small passerine bird found in the rocky and stony areas of East Africa. This species is characterized by its distinctive black face mask, grey-brown upperparts, and pale underparts. The Abyssinian Wheatear is known for its agile foraging behavior, hopping and running on the ground in search of insects and small invertebrates. It breeds in open rocky areas and gullies, and migrates to lower altitudes during the non-breeding season. This species is generally shy and elusive, often perching on prominent rocks to survey its surroundings. The Abyssinian Wheatear is not currently considered to be at risk, with a stable population and a wide distribution range.
