Adelie Penguin

Pygoscelis antarcticus

The Adelie Penguin is a species of penguin found in the Antarctic region. They are easily recognized by their black head and back, white front, and distinctive white eye ring. Adelie Penguins primarily feed on krill and fish, and they are known for their long journeys to find food. They build nests out of stones and pebbles on rocky, ice-free areas along the coast. Adelie Penguins are highly social birds, often forming large breeding colonies. They are well adapted to the extreme cold and harsh conditions of their habitat, using their thick plumage to stay warm. Climate change and human activity pose threats to their populations.
