African Black Duck

Anas sparsa

The African Black Duck is a species of dabbling duck found in sub-Saharan Africa. It is a medium-sized duck with a dark plumage, a pale blue speculum, and a distinctive white eye-ring. This species is known for its secretive behavior and is often found in forested streams, rivers, and wetlands. The African Black Duck is a primarily herbivorous bird, feeding on aquatic plants, seeds, and small invertebrates. Due to habitat loss and hunting pressure, the population of this species is declining, and it is considered Near Threatened according to the IUCN Red List.
