African Grey Hornbill
Crinifer personatus
The African Grey Hornbill (Crinifer personatus) is a medium-sized bird native to the woodlands and savannas of sub-Saharan Africa. This species is known for its distinctive long, curved bill and striking black and white plumage. African Grey Hornbills are often seen perched on tree branches, where they forage for insects, small reptiles, and fruits. They are also known for their unique nesting behavior, as the female seals herself inside a tree cavity using her own feces, leaving only a small slit through which the male feeds her. This species plays an important role in its ecosystem by controlling insect populations and dispersing seeds.
