African Grey Hornbill

Dryoscopus senegalensis

The African Grey Hornbill (Dryoscopus senegalensis) is a small to medium-sized bird found in sub-Saharan Africa. It is known for its distinctive long, curved bill and striking black and white plumage. These birds are often found in savannas, woodlands, and open forests, where they forage for insects, small reptiles, and fruits. They are also known for their unique nesting behavior, where the female seals herself inside a tree cavity using her own droppings and mud, leaving only a narrow slit through which the male feeds her. The African Grey Hornbill is not currently considered to be at risk, and its population is stable.
