African Mourning Dove

Streptopelia decipiens

The African Mourning Dove (Streptopelia decipiens) is a small, slender dove found in eastern and southern Africa. It has a pale grey head and neck, with a pinkish hue on the chest and underparts. The back and wings are a darker grey, and the tail is long and graduated. This species is often found in open woodlands, savannas, and agricultural areas, where it feeds on seeds and grains. It is known for its mournful cooing call, often heard in the early morning and evening. The African Mourning Dove is not currently considered to be at risk, with a stable population and a wide distribution across its range.
