African Palm Swift

Cypsiurus parvus

The African Palm Swift (Cypsiurus parvus) is a small, highly aerial bird found in sub-Saharan Africa and parts of the Arabian Peninsula. This swift is known for its distinctive long, scythe-shaped wings and rapid, acrobatic flight. It primarily feeds on insects, catching them in flight with its wide gape. African Palm Swifts are often observed in flocks, particularly around palm groves and other wooded habitats. They are highly adapted for life on the wing, with a short, forked tail and a streamlined body. Despite their small size, African Palm Swifts are remarkable long-distance migrants, undertaking seasonal movements between their breeding and non-breeding grounds.
