African Palm Swift

Cypsiurus gracilis

The African Palm Swift (Cypsiurus gracilis) is a small, slender bird found in sub-Saharan Africa. With a distinctive pale grey-brown plumage, long wings, and a deeply forked tail, this swift is well-adapted for a life spent almost entirely on the wing. It is often seen in large flocks, soaring and wheeling through the skies as it hunts for flying insects. African Palm Swifts are highly dependent on palm plantations and savannah woodlands for nesting and roosting, where they construct their nests from plant fibers and saliva. Their high-pitched chattering calls are a characteristic sound of the African savannah.
