African Pipit

Anthus sylvanus

The African Pipit (Anthus sylvanus) is a small passerine bird found in sub-Saharan Africa. It is characterized by its streaked brown and buff plumage, long hind claw, and distinctive song. This species is often found in open grasslands, agricultural fields, and savannas, where it forages for insects and seeds on the ground. The African Pipit is known for its aerial displays during courtship, where it ascends high into the sky before parachuting down with fluttering wings. Although not globally threatened, habitat loss and agricultural intensification pose localized threats to this species.
