African Pipit

Anthus caffer

The African Pipit (Anthus caffer) is a small passerine bird found in grasslands, savannas, and agricultural areas across sub-Saharan Africa. It is characterized by its streaked brown upperparts, pale underparts with streaking on the breast, and a distinct pale eyebrow stripe. The African Pipit forages on the ground for insects and seeds, often using its distinctive long hind claw to help with balance. It is known for its melodious, far-carrying song, often delivered from a prominent perch. This species is generally widespread and common throughout its range, although it may face localized threats from habitat loss and agricultural intensification.
