African Red-headed Weaver

Spermophaga ruficapilla

The African Red-headed Weaver (Spermophaga ruficapilla) is a small songbird found in sub-Saharan Africa. This species is known for its striking red head and bright yellow underparts, with the rest of its plumage being predominantly black and white. African Red-headed Weavers are social birds that often form large flocks, particularly during the non-breeding season. They are primarily insectivorous, foraging for insects in savannas, woodlands, and forest edges. Their cup-shaped nests, woven from grass and other plant materials, are suspended from tree branches. The African Red-headed Weaver is not currently considered to be at risk, and its population is believed to be stable.
