African Spotted Creeper, Salpornis salvadori, breeds in Africa from Senegal and Ethiopia south to Zimbabwe and Mozambique. It is a passerine in the family Salpornithidae and is found in open deciduous forest and mango groves. Its plumage is strongly spotted and barred, setting it apart from the treecreepers in Certhia. It has a long, thin, pointed bill that curves downwards, and it lacks the stiff tail feathers used by Certhia treecreepers for support on vertical trunks.
