African Stonechat

Saxicola torquatus

The African Stonechat (Saxicola torquatus) is a small passerine bird found in sub-Saharan Africa. It is characterized by its black head, orange chest, and white patches on the wings. This species is often found perched on top of shrubs or rocks, where it hunts for insects and small invertebrates. The African Stonechat is a territorial bird, and its melodious song can often be heard in its preferred open habitats, including grasslands, savannas, and agricultural fields. This species is known for its adaptability and can also be found in urban and disturbed areas. The African Stonechat is not currently considered to be at risk and is classified as Least Concern by the IUCN.
