Loxops caeruleirostris (Wilson, SB, 1890)
Akekee, Loxops caeruleirostris, is a finch in the Hawaiian Islands, confined to Kauaʻi in the Pacific Ocean. It occurs there in small numbers at higher elevations. It belongs to the family Fringillidae and the genus Loxops. The bird was once treated as the same species as the Hawaiʻi ʻākepa, but it was later separated on the basis of differences in colour, nesting behaviour and calls, as well as its unusual bill.
