Alagoas Curassow

Alagoas Curassow, Mitu mitu, is a bird of eastern Brazil in the family Cracidae. It is linked to forest in the north-east of the country, including the former range in Pernambuco and Alagoas that gave rise to its name. The species is now extinct in the wild. It was first noted in 1648, later rediscovered in coastal Alagoas in 1951, and its status as a distinct bird was then accepted. Around 200 individuals remain in captivity.
