Alaotra Grebe, Tachybaptus rufolavatus, was a grebe of Lac Alaotra in Madagascar, where it lived around the lake and nearby waters. It was confined to this part of the island and used reed beds and papyrus stands close to the shore for nesting. The species was described by Delacour in 1932 and is now extinct. It was a small grebe with limited long-distance flight because of its short wings, and males were only slightly larger than females. It fed mainly on fish, with insects also recorded in a few stomachs.
