Albertine Owlet

Glaucidium albertinum

The Albertine Owlet (Glaucidium albertinum) is a small owl species native to the Albertine Rift montane forests of East Africa. It is characterized by its compact size, rounded head, and prominent yellow eyes. This elusive owl is predominantly nocturnal and feeds on small mammals, birds, and insects. Its cryptic plumage provides excellent camouflage amidst the dense vegetation of its forest habitat. The Albertine Owlet is a solitary bird, and its haunting calls can often be heard echoing through the misty montane forests. Due to habitat loss and fragmentation, the conservation status of the Albertine Owlet is currently listed as Vulnerable by the IUCN.
