Aleutian Tern

Onychoprion aleuticus

The Aleutian Tern is a medium-sized seabird known for its graceful flight and distinctive black cap. It breeds in coastal areas of the North Pacific, particularly in the Aleutian Islands and northern Japan. During the non-breeding season, it migrates south to the waters off the coasts of Central and South America. This species is known for its agile aerial hunting skills, feeding primarily on small fish and invertebrates. The Aleutian Tern is vulnerable to habitat loss and disturbance at its breeding sites, as well as threats from pollution and overfishing in its foraging areas.
