Altamira Oriole

Icterus gularis

The Altamira Oriole is a striking bird with bright orange plumage, a black bib, and a pointed bill. It is a medium-sized songbird found in the southern United States and Mexico. These orioles are known for their melodious and flute-like songs, often heard in the canopy of open woodlands and riparian areas. They are omnivorous, feeding on insects, fruits, and nectar. Altamira Orioles build intricate hanging nests from fibers and grasses, often suspended from the tips of palm fronds. Their populations are stable, but they face threats from habitat loss and nest predation.
