Amami Woodcock

Amami Woodcock, Scolopax mira, is a wader of the Ryukyu Islands in southern Japan, breeding from Amami-Oshima to Tokunoshima and ranging south to Okinawa. It is found in forested areas, including some smaller nearby islands. Compared with the Eurasian woodcock, it is slightly larger and has longer legs. Its known habits are said to be like those of the Eurasian woodcock. The species was described by Hartert in 1916.
