Amazonian Black Tyrant, Knipolegus poecilocercus, is a passerine of Amazonia in South America, breeding in riverine parts of the Amazon basin. It is a tyrant flycatcher associated with várzea forest, especially dense growth in the understorey and places close to open water. The species was described by Pelzeln in 1868. It is a resident bird and is most often found along rivers and lakes, including blackwater sites in Ecuador and Peru. It has unusually large eyes, and the sexes differ in plumage, with males mostly glossy black and females mainly olive-brown above with pale underparts.
