Amboyna Cuckoo-Dove

Macropygia amboinensis

The Amboyna Cuckoo-Dove (Macropygia amboinensis) is a medium-sized pigeon species found in the forests and woodlands of Southeast Asia and the Pacific islands. It has a distinctive blue-grey head and neck, with a pinkish-grey breast and belly. The species is known for its haunting call that echoes through the forest canopy. Amboyna Cuckoo-Doves primarily feed on fruits and seeds, and are important seed dispersers in their habitats. They are generally shy and elusive birds, often seen alone or in pairs. Despite being relatively common in some areas, the species faces threats from habitat loss and hunting.
