Empidonax wrightii Baird, SF, 1858
American Grey Flycatcher, Empidonax wrightii, breeds in south-west Canada and western USA and moves to Mexico outside the breeding season. It is a member of the tyrant flycatcher family and belongs to the genus Empidonax. In western North America it is found in dry country, with a strong presence in the Great Basin. It uses sagebrush steppe, pinyon-juniper woodland and ponderosa pine forest. It is set apart from other Empidonax by its downward tail wag, rather than the usual quick upward flick shown by related species.
